Yesterday, kids and adults who shred and film came from all over the Wasatch, and the Grand Tetons just to support our team, Team Prospect. Its a regional team sponsored by Smith, Skullcandy, and Spacecraft for skiers and snowboarders with a heart for the sport and good attitudes to support their brands. A little Ultimate Frisbee, a lot of Pizza and even more fun.

Breck Opening Day!

A Bluebird morning held strong throughout the day as people lined up for the chairlifts in Breckenridge Colorado. It was great to see jumps again, and even better to play on them. The three line was epic. It brought out friends from all over Colorado, Utah and even some mid-westerners. Just another reminder of how small the snow-sports community really is!

Day 106 - Owwwww.

Had surgery yesterday to get my screws out. I woke up from my drug nap and it didn't hurt as bad as when the screws got put in...but I think it's because they had me take drugs before the surgery this time (recommended). The ride home in my dads truck felt like a roller coaster ride. It was all I could do to keep myself from putting my hands out the moon roof and yelling, "Fasterr!!!!" Got home and took a fatty nap and then hung out with my best friend in the world, who is also soon to be a cripple. Torn LCL I believe. Maybe injury IS contagious. It wasn't until early this morning I woke up and finally felt pain. It's starting to feel better now, but walking has again become a chore. I'm on the home stretch and its becoming real to me now. Cant wait to go for a run, or jump on a trampoline, play with my puppy, or kick my brother... mostly I can't wait to strap in ta one a them snowboard contraptions :)

Oh...and when i was put under...the last song that was playing in the operating room was "The Climb" ..... Haha thanks for the words of encouragement Miley!

Day 37 - I started classes this week.

I'm taking 4 classes at UWM and they are all amazing; ASL 1, Deaf History, Power of Words (Linguistics), and a Theatre class. Teachers are great, students are great, and its good to be using my brain again.
Its been a challenge getting around campus with my injury and I cant help but feel jealous of the people around me just because they are walking. It really put life in perspective for me when I saw a man in a wheel chair who's legs were paralyzed on campus. He has lived his whole life in a wheel chair and here I was complaining about it after 3 days.
I know we hear it all the time - "we take it for granted." But whatever "it" may be (walking, seeing, hearing, talking) you can never even begin to even minutely understand until you are experiencing "it."
I keep telling myself that I'm lucky and that it could all be much worse... and honestly
...sometimes it doesn't work. I still feel sorry for myself even though there are so many other people that are worse off. - The fact is....what I thought was devastating, could be considered only a miracle to some. - That's the thought that shuts me up.

"raviolis and a nap, raviolis and a nap!"

Day 10 - Foot Injury Update

So...after 4 sets of x-rays, a CT scan, an MRI, and 3 different doctors...i'm going under the knife. I have lisfranc...which is a pretty serious injury ...basically i tore the tendon that connects my lower meditarsals to my upper meditarsals...along with a few other ones...not quite as serious...but i will have to get two screws put it...and eventually taken out. This whole process...including therapy is supposed to take me out of riding this whole winter...

Devistated.

Good ol' Wisconsin air...

There's something about the smell associated with where you're from.
One big gulp of that magical air and a feeling wells inside you.
A feeling wonderful and a bit uncomfortable,
but only because this air isn't what you're used to anymore.

For Example: I was in Oregon for 3 months. Breathing Oregon air, exhaling Oregon air, eating Oregon air, smelling Oregon air....(you get the picture). I was "CHEATING" on my Wisconsin air....if you will. Making new memories with new people in new places all amongst Oregon air. As soon as I stepped out of the car and onto my driveway in my little home town, that first breath was familiar yet new.
It's not until the 9th or 10th huge wiff (nearly on the verge of hyperventilation) that that uncomfortable piece of the afore mentioned feeling dissipates.

The crisp winter air is my favorite...but this time it was a smell that brought back the memory of those long summer days that bled into the short summer nights right before senior year. Three of us out of our little high school clique lived in Parkview Medows... and we referred as our little area as 'our hood'...not to be taken literally...the nickname was more of a reference name than it was a description. Anyway, I can recall days where we would stand in the street and toss a 175 Diskcraft Ultra-Star until our hands were red. Cars would come by every once in a while, and when they did someone would yell, "CAR!" Some would walk to the left boulevard and some to the right, and we'd all watch as the car would slow way down, almost to a stop (as if there were thousands of little 4 year old children in the street)... It ate at me a little...and I remember mumbling to myself (on more than one occasion) "come onnnnnnnn letsss gooooooooo."
We were obviously WATCHING the car...I mean...it was the only thing standing between us and fun. They would stare right back at us... stop at the corner stop sign and drive away. We were always quick to return to the street and our play was resumed.

We played Frisbee like it was our job that summer. We would walk to the soccer fields, play until we were cranky, argue about plays, and eventually someone would call it quits (usually out of anger or frustration)...and everyone else would follow. We would walk back and as it got dark, we'd bring out the light up Frisbee and play until all of the mosquitoes in a 12 mile radius were full of our blood...Driving was cool back then.

I miss those days. :)
