Had surgery yesterday to get my screws out. I woke up from my drug nap and it didn't hurt as bad as when the screws got put in...but I think it's because they had me take drugs before the surgery this time (recommended). The ride home in my dads truck felt like a roller coaster ride. It was all I could do to keep myself from putting my hands out the moon roof and yelling, "Fasterr!!!!" Got home and took a fatty nap and then hung out with my best friend in the world, who is also soon to be a cripple. Torn LCL I believe. Maybe injury IS contagious. It wasn't until early this morning I woke up and finally felt pain. It's starting to feel better now, but walking has again become a chore. I'm on the home stretch and its becoming real to me now. Cant wait to go for a run, or jump on a trampoline, play with my puppy, or kick my brother... mostly I can't wait to strap in ta one a them snowboard contraptions :)
Oh...and when i was put under...the last song that was playing in the operating room was "The Climb" ..... Haha thanks for the words of encouragement Miley!

Day 37 - I started classes this week.
I'm taking 4 classes at UWM and they are all amazing; ASL 1, Deaf History, Power of Words (Linguistics), and a Theatre class. Teachers are great, students are great, and its good to be using my brain again.
Its been a challenge getting around campus with my injury and I cant help but feel jealous of the people around me just because they are walking. It really put life in perspective for me when I saw a man in a wheel chair who's legs were paralyzed on campus. He has lived his whole life in a wheel chair and here I was complaining about it after 3 days.
I know we hear it all the time - "we take it for granted." But whatever "it" may be (walking, seeing, hearing, talking) you can never even begin to even minutely understand until you are experiencing "it."
I keep telling myself that I'm lucky and that it could all be much worse... and honestly
...sometimes it doesn't work. I still feel sorry for myself even though there are so many other people that are worse off. - The fact is....what I thought was devastating, could be considered only a miracle to some. - That's the thought that shuts me up.
"raviolis and a nap, raviolis and a nap!"

Day 10 - Foot Injury Update
So...after 4 sets of x-rays, a CT scan, an MRI, and 3 different doctors...i'm going under the knife. I have lisfranc...which is a pretty serious injury ...basically i tore the tendon that connects my lower meditarsals to my upper meditarsals...along with a few other ones...not quite as serious...but i will have to get two screws put it...and eventually taken out. This whole process...including therapy is supposed to take me out of riding this whole winter...
Devistated.

Good ol' Wisconsin air...
There's something about the smell associated with where you're from.
One big gulp of that magical air and a feeling wells inside you.
A feeling wonderful and a bit uncomfortable,
but only because this air isn't what you're used to anymore.
For Example: I was in Oregon for 3 months. Breathing Oregon air, exhaling Oregon air, eating Oregon air, smelling Oregon air....(you get the picture). I was "CHEATING" on my Wisconsin air....if you will. Making new memories with new people in new places all amongst Oregon air. As soon as I stepped out of the car and onto my driveway in my little home town, that first breath was familiar yet new.
It's not until the 9th or 10th huge wiff (nearly on the verge of hyperventilation) that that uncomfortable piece of the afore mentioned feeling dissipates.
The crisp winter air is my favorite...but this time it was a smell that brought back the memory of those long summer days that bled into the short summer nights right before senior year. Three of us out of our little high school clique lived in Parkview Medows... and we referred as our little area as 'our hood'...not to be taken literally...the nickname was more of a reference name than it was a description. Anyway, I can recall days where we would stand in the street and toss a 175 Diskcraft Ultra-Star until our hands were red. Cars would come by every once in a while, and when they did someone would yell, "CAR!" Some would walk to the left boulevard and some to the right, and we'd all watch as the car would slow way down, almost to a stop (as if there were thousands of little 4 year old children in the street)... It ate at me a little...and I remember mumbling to myself (on more than one occasion) "come onnnnnnnn letsss gooooooooo."
We were obviously WATCHING the car...I mean...it was the only thing standing between us and fun. They would stare right back at us... stop at the corner stop sign and drive away. We were always quick to return to the street and our play was resumed.
We played Frisbee like it was our job that summer. We would walk to the soccer fields, play until we were cranky, argue about plays, and eventually someone would call it quits (usually out of anger or frustration)...and everyone else would follow. We would walk back and as it got dark, we'd bring out the light up Frisbee and play until all of the mosquitoes in a 12 mile radius were full of our blood...Driving was cool back then.
I miss those days. :)

Windells Recap
Summer ended quite abruptly for me this year, and ill explain why later, but as something ends, your brain does somewhat of a recap. You think about the people you've met, the places you've gone, and the things you've done with those people at those places and you cant help but feel a bit sad. I've been loved by some, hated by few, and hurt by one, just as I've loved, hated and hurt on my own ground. All of these people I met here in Oregon have somehow affected my life and whether they taught me not to wear my heart on my sleeve, how to do rodeos on the trampoline, or that apples and peanut butter is the greatest crunchy-juicy-sticky-creamy deliciousness to ever exist on this earth....my direction in life has shifted and I'm someone new. I want to say thank you to everyone here that made my life different.
Keri - You've got such a big heart and thank you for sharing it with me, your hate for chucks rapping will always make me smile. Your friendship means so much to me, and i wish you all the best in your adventures...your a beast at everything you do (that's a good thing).
Chuck - Your rapping is fantastic, don't let Keri tell you otherwise. You've got an amazing sense of humor and laughter is what will keep you young forever. I love who you are and hope that i can learn from your passion for life.
Jeremy A. - Understanding and thoughtful in everything you do makes you one of the most approachable people I've met here. Thanks for taking the time to be available to us all as a boss and a friend.
Katiah - Teary eyed just typing your name. You have what i call inner-light; i can see the good in you...it shines so bright and I'll never forget you (mostly cuz your damn theme song is always stuck in my head).
J-Bleezy - You taught me that some people suck at making fires (*ahem*chuck) and some people are gifted...aka You. You're a hard worker and your drive at camp as a counselor and on the hill as a snowboarder never went un-noticed.
Jake - Your are your shorts. Bright, exciting, different and short?...okay maybe not the last one, but in any case, you pull them off so well. Your carefree "that's not my job" attitude (haha)has taught me a lot in staying who i am and changing for no one.
Mack - Yo your crazy mad good at snowboarding and i hope you do well in everything you try. Thanks for helping me get situated as a new staff member this year. You were kind and compassionate to take me under your wing. love u momma mack!
Jace - I think you're a crazy sob and you fit the roll of mean older brother perfectly - love it. You're such a hard worker and i admire that in a person... Thanks for not punching me the 43983920 times you could've. Be nice to your sister
Shay - I love you so much girl!! You made S.A.I.G.L. bareable. I had a blast getting to know you this summer and you're unlike anyone i've ever met before...and no its not cuz you're a ginger. I am a fan of you and Enzo, i think you two are perfect and you balance each other out nicely...you're a strong minded young woman and you can do anything you want, I truly believe that.
T- Sads -I luh you man! lol call me the day you wear goggles? Pro wiggling was the last thing i ever expected from you...or was it?...either way the song "my friend's a pro" totally applies here. Call me up if you ever need a massage...your my number one un-paying customer. I'll miss your smile...and yours is truly contagious. THREE MORE....and a SHRUBBARY!
Rook - You're gunna make a great dad...swimsuit, grill, beer in one hand spatula in another, foam visor and some shades at the side of a pool. We didn't hang out much this summer but one way or another you made me laugh, a lot of the time you wouldn't even know it...
Joel - You should never be in possession of any type of walky-talky EVER. Your teradactyal noises suck! and rock all at the same time. Thanks for the redbull here and there...sorry you never got your blay-jay from Steph. HA, You're hilarious and i love that you're amazing at teatherball.
Benny - You're truly a kid at heart. You're playful demeanor and big heart will keep you alive forever in the hearts of those who love you. Thank you for being a great friend, I'll miss you so much and your broken English. Everything about you is beautiful and i never want to lose touch. Thanks for everything.
RoundHouse - The first person i met at camp...and the only person i don't really quite understand. I like that about you. You simple persona is only the surface, you have so much personality and you let it go in small bursts...you make life exciting...
Stephanie - You. I could go on forever, but ill just say this....Hold My Hand. Friends forever girl. You've taught me a lot about patience ...and that i don't have it. You were there for me through it all and that is a true friend. Our life journey isn't over.

MADS - AWWW lady! I loved your little tribute in your blog...i think that if we had become friends earlier in the summer it would have been a great idea. Dania - D!! I love you so much girl. I hope you find everything you're looking for. Thanks for teaching me how to do yoga....never knew people could do some of the things you do. I'm glad your butt is better and I love Josh for you. Hes a lucky man.
Smash - The phrase "GIRL! YOU LOOK SASSSY!" - will never come out of my mouth without thinking of you. I cried when i read your note on my counter and i knew you meant what you wrote and i want you to know that I mean this when i say it. I love the shit out of you. There's no way there was, is, or ever will be anyone like you. I'm always here if you need me. PS. I'm a fan of you and DEAN! ha i mean Dane.
Adam A - You changed my life 2 years ago and you're still at it. Everything we've talked about, everything I've learned from you and everything you gave to me will never be forgotten. You have a hot temper but a passionate love for life and your friends and that makes you someone that everyone loves. I love you.
Shannon and Chrissy - I'm putting you together because that seems to be the trend around here. Shannon, you're a strong and competent girl and you attitude towards life motivates me to stand up and take charge. Chrissy, your light and simple nature is really settling and reminds me to relax and go with the flow sometimes. Really though, together you compliment each other to the T. I see why you're friends and that bond is symbolic to many things in life. Keep strong girls.
Justine - Girl you keep life intresting. Your intensity in everything you do is great and i love your sense of stylee!! You will reach your goals.
Hogan - I hate you and I love you. Haha, you taught me to be careful with my friendships. At the beginning of camp, i felt a connection with you, that we were meant to be great friends. Thanks for helping me learn that there is good in everything that may seem bad.
Ricky Bobby - I love your sunny-G's and your fun goofy crazy weird personality. I feel like you dont hide your feelings from anyone and i admire that. Do what you do boy!
Steve and Tom - I'm putting you two together because i feel like you're the big brothers I never had and you cared enough to help me get better at something that I'm passionate about. Izzy - You're amazing. So relaxed so positive and so grateful for what you have. I'm lucky to have met you and I hope that i can learn from your personality and be as bighearted and bright-eyed as you.

Jesse - You were a great friend this summer, i had a blast and you were such a sweet guy to be around. Your goofy sense of humor and positive attitude made it easy to want to be around you. Thanks for the great times.
Thanks Diggers (and Keaton!), Baller Kitchen Staff (<3 class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_57">vince, enzo, justin, ryan - great guys), Coaches, Counselors, Back Office, EVERYONE! The campers were amazing...all my cabins were sick and the kids killed it...i hope to see everyone of them back here next summer.
Anyway ....Back to why this summer is pretty much over for me. I like trampolines, but I managed to fracture two bones in my foot 3 nights ago on one while attempting a double backflip. Now I should have listened to Tom and tried it on the softer trampoline, but i had done it twice before on this one, but just hadn't landed. So i went for it and ended up traveling backwards a little bit....i landed on the outer edge of the bed and the impact from that height and the stiffness of where i landed broke my foot.
After 5 painful hours sitting in the waiting room at the ER and 2 and a half hours taking X-Rays, getting it splinted and getting discharged....i arrived back at camp. I had planned on staying for the rest of camp, which my parents wern't too stoked on, but then clumsy me, went and fell face forward onto my foot, off my crutches. That's when I decided that i might just need a little time to just sit and recoup before i hurt myself even worse....what better place to do that than HOME!
My dad is comming today and he's gunna help me pack up and he'll drive me and my car back to Wisconsin. I have 6 to 8 weeks according to the doctor before I'll be 100%...Which is great news...way before the season starts.
I've decided to look at this broken foot thing as a blessing. Something way worse could have happened on hill. I'll get to see my family. I'll get to see my boy before hes stationed in Japan. I'll get to hang out with my brother. I'll get to see my old friends. I'll be positioned infront of a new big-screen TV for long peroids of time, and home cooked meals....haha.
I'm sad to be ending this chapter of my life...but this means that a new one gets to start....and i love a new begining! :)
Love, Stephanie

Izzy - You're amazing. So relaxed so positive and so grateful for what you have. I'm lucky to have met you and I hope that i can learn from your personality and be as bighearted and bright-eyed as you.
THE WISCO FAMILY - Kyle, Doman, Ben Butz, Corey, Micah....you guys all kill it, and i love you all...thanks for playing a big part in my snowboarding adventure...always in my heart.
Little John - You're cranky, but for some reason I'm drawn to your fantastic use of sarcasm and bold blunt to the point statements. I love that you speak your mind. If i learned anything from you its to speak my mind....and that dirt jumps are super cool.
Scotty - You're super rad. You kill it and your relaxed chill style on a bike, transfers to who you are in everyday life. Thanks for being kind and proving that to be a biker...you don't need to wear cutoff jeans.
Jennette - You're a hard worker. PERIOD! Thanks for everything, I'm convinced and so is everyone else that without you camp wouldn't even exist. Your laugh is contagious and i love your hats!
Bryce - Thanks for everything this summer...You were a great manager dude...and i hope that someday you can fulfill your dream of marrying your nacho chips and cheese.
Tim Windell - You're Intense! This whole place is a direct result of your hard work and time, thanks for the experiences...without you ...none of this summer could've happened for any of us.
John David - I miss you and I'm mad you went home but hopefully that's not the last time I'll see you. Thanks for being a great friend, you are a good man and i believe that your first instincts are the right ones. Never doubt yourself...remember...you're solid.
Scotty Banger - You're a crazy mofo. Thanks for the sweatshirt...and all the ark memories...(skateboarding in mantanna comes to mind). And now for a "woohoo" tribute to Scotty Banger....WOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Carter - 0 and 6 at BP - killin it.
Max - You're a fun guy...straight up. Fun and lovable. I thank you for all your hard work in the park selling digger dogs to our staff and campers...keeping those who are too lazy to pack a lunch alive. I'll miss you lots. NC!
Kellan - I like you. Haha, you're a great person and you have been a really good friend. You're good at basketball for some reason and you totally murder it on the hill...not gunna lie...some of my best days riding was when I was able to kick it with you. Kellan IT!
Matt - Thanks for driving me to the Hospital...you were a real trooper...that night was super sucky but you were there to keep me calm and laughing. I saw a different side of u that night...and i know that even though you pick on me....its because you care. I'll miss you...
Johnnie Sunam - YOU ROCK. That's all i got...pretty much sums it up.
Anna - I miss you lots girl...i wish you coulda stayed longer this summer...but i loved getting to know you....you're a great girl with a lot going for her and you are one of those people that no one could hate even if they tried.
Robbie - I love your hippiness! and your puppy...cutest dog ever! You killed it this year and everyone saw that. Glad to have met you man.
Corbin - You're such a great guy Corbin and i love your gentle approach to everything you do. I'm stoked on how hard you work at your job as a coach and on your schooling. I admire that and i know you'll go far with your go-getter attitude.
