I'm taking 4 classes at UWM and they are all amazing; ASL 1, Deaf History, Power of Words (Linguistics), and a Theatre class. Teachers are great, students are great, and its good to be using my brain again.
Its been a challenge getting around campus with my injury and I cant help but feel jealous of the people around me just because they are walking. It really put life in perspective for me when I saw a man in a wheel chair who's legs were paralyzed on campus. He has lived his whole life in a wheel chair and here I was complaining about it after 3 days.
I know we hear it all the time - "we take it for granted." But whatever "it" may be (walking, seeing, hearing, talking) you can never even begin to even minutely understand until you are experiencing "it."
I keep telling myself that I'm lucky and that it could all be much worse... and honestly
...sometimes it doesn't work. I still feel sorry for myself even though there are so many other people that are worse off. - The fact is....what I thought was devastating, could be considered only a miracle to some. - That's the thought that shuts me up.
